Tooth Extraction is a surgical procedure to remove an entire tooth from the mouth. An extraction may be necessary if the tooth is severely damaged by decay or is broken below the gum line, or, if it is affected by severe gum disease that can no longer be managed with regular cleanings.

Whenever possible, we try to avoid extractions because losing a tooth not only reduces your ability to chew but may also cause adjacent and opposing teeth to shift and alter the bite and may also be a cosmetic issue.  Shifted teeth may complicate home care and may cause abnormal food impaction that may be more difficult to clean. The dentist will evaluate if an extraction is the most suitable alternative for you and present you with all options for alternate treatment (if any).  If an extraction is unavoidable, the dentist will review all space management options for replacing a tooth that is destined for removal.
